Q. How do I get rid of SPAM?!

A. You cannot never get rid of SPAM entirely, but following are several options available to help you manage SPAM better.

1. Delete it! In your 1055 usermin panel, you have the option to delete SPAM. To do this, login to this panel (please refer to your virtual server information for this information), click Mail. In Mail, select Filter and Forward Mail. Here, add a new email filter. Check the options: Condition for filter-"Email classifed as spam" and Action if condition is matched-"Throw Away." Hit Create and you are finished, any mail tagged as SPAM will be deleted. Click here to view screen shots for reference.

2. Set filtering rules in your mail client. ICI uses clamAV and SPAM Assassin to filter spam on the server. Anything that is considered SPAM by these software packages gets tagged in the subject heading as ****SPAM or ****VIRUS. Use these conditions in your mail client filters. For more information on how to do this, for pc users, use the handout setting up mail in Outlook. For Mac Mail users, please refer to the Mac Mail help, the instructions are straight forward.

3. More Advanced filtering in Usermin. You can also create new mail folders in your 1055 Usermin panel (go to Manage Folders option on your Read Mail page). In the Mail filtering rules, have SPAM get redirected to one of these folders. Additionally, if you knowledgeable, you may set your SPAM to delete periodically. Or you can contact ICI for consultation on how to manage your mail using our Email Sherpa services.

What you need to know about filtering SPAM
1. The cost of hosting is determined by the amount of space allocated to you. If you do not set your email to delete from the server in either Oultook, Mac Mail, or your Desktop Mail client or delete SPAM on the server side, SPAM will cause you to exceed quota.

2. The SPAM filtering software will not catch all SPAM. All anybody can do is manage the inundation of this unfortunate email reality. It is an unfortunate truth.
